In the previous post I spoke about:
- What do you need to make a podcast?
- How to make a podcast: 7 simple steps
3. How to make a podcast: 7 simple steps
4. Structure the organization of your podcast
Here you will have to define how your project will be structured, for example: by short episodes, or just a long episode, will it have introduction, development and conclusion?
The important thing about this step is to get your audience used to a sequence, so that they feel identified and familiar.
In addition to time, you’ll also need to plan how often you’re going to publish your Podcast, imagine it’s a radio show or an entertainment series, so the audience will know when your next release will be.
There is no good or bad structure, this is very personal, so you can let your imagination run free.
The important thing here is that you enter the life of the listeners and become part of their routine, for example, Thursdays at 7:00 PM are exclusively to download and listen to your show.
Don’t forget to leave a question or a topic open, such as a small mouth opener to feel like listening to the next episode.
5. Make your audios unique
Once you’ve planned the theme and content of your Podcast, you’ll need to customize it a bit and add some features to make it stand out, such as giving it a good name and choosing an excellent image.
When choosing the name, it is very important that you take your time, since the name should describe by itself what your Podcast is going to be about.
In addition, it will be the name that people will be able to find your job with.
Like the name, the image must be something very special, because it will be the cover of your work.
It is important that the image identifies and expresses the content of your Podcast, without forgetting that it must be eye-catching and original.
If you can’t find one you like on the Internet, you can edit it in your own style with a program to edit images.
6. Start recording!
At this stage it’s time for action: let’s start recording!
Although, how it’s so important, I’ve decided that it’s better to make a section just for this step, later I’ll explain in detail “how you can record a Podcast”.
7. Upload your podcast to an audio platform
Once you’ve recorded your first Podcast, all you need to do is release it to the world for it to be heard.
To do this you need to upload it or host it on a specialized Podcast platform like the ones I recommended above.
Some of the most popular and specialized sites to upload podcasts are Ivoox, LibSyn, Spreaker, SoundCloud, iTunes.
Do not miss the opportunity to discuss your new project with your friends and family to have your first listeners.
Share the link on as many pages and social networks as you can, I suggest you start with Facebook and Twitter which are the most popular.
After that, you’ll start receiving visits and downloads to your podcast, and you’ll get more and more popularity.
4. How to record a podcast
To start recording a podcast, you don’t need a big computer: all you need is a computer with a good Internet connection, a microphone, headphones, and a recording and editing program such as Audacity (which is also free).
The first thing you should do is to check the state of the equipment, the microphone should be well connected and check that it is working, in the same way with the camera, depending on the type of Podcast you want to do.
Look for a quiet place with as little outside noise as possible, where you don’t have interruptions from your little brother or your pet.
Then you open the recording program that you chose and downloaded from the internet, and start doing some recording tests.
If this is the first time you do this is ideal to do some rehearsals first, to tune your tone of voice, and other things that you consider important.
As you go making your audio or video, the ideal is that you play a little with the program, so you can go adding some effect or other detail, ie, you can customize your work according to your tastes.
I recommend that you record it in parts, so you can go reviewing how it is and if you are wrong you do not have to start from scratch.
Another suggestion is to listen to successful Podcasts so that you have an idea of how it should sound.
Some technical or creative problems may arise, but don’t panic, even expert professionals have obstacles, just focus on solving them in the best way and in the shortest time possible.
After you have your audio or video ready, you have to review the format in which it was saved, some programs save the files in a special format and you need a file that everyone can play from any device.
Some examples of the audio formats that almost everyone handles are MP3 for audio files, or MP4 for video files.
I know this sounds very technical, but it’s something you can do online easily just type in Google the audio you have and the one you want to convert, for example “convert from WAV to MP3”.
Some programs have the option that you choose the format yourself, it is almost always in the File tab and then Export or in the settings.
You’re almost ready. The next step is to find a place to host your Podcast, in other words, save your audio file on the network, so that you can then share it wherever or however you want.
Above in What do you need to do a Podcast? are my recommendations of the most popular sites.
Done! You are officially the happy creator of a Podcast.
